Helping people gain the skills and confidence they need to participate in our community is the right thing to do, but it also strengthens us.

Lower levels of literacy are linked to:

poverty
poor health
unemployment and underemployment

Higher levels of literacy have a positive effect on our economy and can reduce costs to our health care, social service, and justice systems.

How We Do It

Work with Learners to confirm long-term independence, employment, and/or education goals.
Assess each Learner’s essential skills.
Develop an individualized plan to help learners build the skills they need to achieve their goals.
Provide individual and small group instruction and tutoring based on a Learner’s plan.
Assess Learners’ progress and adjust plans as required.
Refer Learners to other services as needed.
